03 September 2010The presidents of northern and southern Cyprus discussed the island’s contentious property issue during a recent meeting, Turkish Cypriot President Derviş Eroğlu said Friday. Eroğlu and Greek Cypriot President Dimitris Christofias met Friday at the buffer zone in Nicosia for the 10th time for ongoing Cyprus peace talks. In a statement following the meeting, Eroğlu said both parties presented their summary opinions on the property issue, but added that they did not comment on each other’s positions during the meeting. Eroğlu said detailed proposals on the matter would be introduced during a meeting Monday while day-long talks are also set for Wednesday and next Friday. The Turkish Cypriot leader said very-detailed discussions would be held on the property issue and that comprehensive proposals would be put on the table as part of the upcoming talks. Eroğlu also said Cyprus negotiations would resume in October as both he and Christofias were scheduled to be abroad until the end of September for unrelated talks. Mehmet Ali Talat, Eroğlu's predecessor, and Christofias met 71 times in Cyprus for extensive settlement talks. Eroğlu was elected president of northern Cyprus on April 18.
